Prom is becoming more expensive every year, and not every high school girl can afford to go. Thanks to Katie's Project, that is starting to change.

"Katie's Project is here to increase the self-esteem of young people by giving them the support they need to attend social events during their high school years."

After one girls' high school project to find a way for her fellow peers to attend prom, Kathy Foxworth of LITUS Properties became determined to see the projects success and that it stayed alive. Kathy has created a charitable organization known as Katie's Project, named after the student who began it.

Katie's Project has had the ability to function year round helping young adults from Horry county acquire formal attire for events such as prom, military balls, and school pagents thanks to the generous donation and support of local residents and businesses. A student only needs to fill in an application, provide a valid student ID, and have a teacher, guidance counselor or principal verify that they are in good standing.

As goes with being a charitable organization, Katie's Project holds special events throughout the year to help raise money to go towards their yearly expenses. They have raised over $30,500 for the 2012 year alone!

Katie's Project has recently finished with their 5th annual Mr. Myrtle Beach contest, and are preparing for the Holiday Bash at the Melting Pot. This event will be held on December 13th, 2012, from 6-8 p.m., with only a $5 donation at the door and holiday coctail attire required to enjoy! There will be $5 dollar drink specials, hors d'oevres, and plenty of door prizes, along with a three course meal for the price of $35/person, of which $5 of every meal purchased will be donated to the organization.

Katie’s Project is always in need of new items. Just a few examples would be:
·         Gowns that are in current style, clean, and ready to wear
·         Shoes
·         New makeup
·         Costume jewelry
·         Hair accessories
·         Formal purses and handbags

Please remember that donations should not have any stains, rips, pulls, tears, or any other damages to it.

Donations can be made at any of the places located on the map below. Don’t have any of the items listed above? No problem. If you still want to help out, you can always make a monetary donation from their site, or you can click here for more contact information.
