Tournament Raised More Than $20,000 for Prostate Cancer Patients

Charitable foursomes raised more than $20,000 for prostate cancer patients making the third annual Burger Prostate Challenge golf tournament a huge success.

The tournament was held Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011 at Kiawah Island’s Ocean Course. All funds raised from the event will benefit Roper St. Francis Healthcare’s (RSFH) Prostate Cancer Fund.

“The golf tournament was all about getting men to get their heads out of the sand traps and get screened for prostate cancer,” said Ken Burger, prostate cancer survivor and tournament host. “The turnout was excellent, and I am so thankful to all who contributed.”

When Burger was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2007 he invited his newspaper readers on a year-long journey through surgery and subsequent treatments until his last radiation session at Roper St. Francis Cancer Care. He joined forces with RSFH to start the golf tournament in 2009, and he still spends time at the center visiting cancer patients.

The tournament could not have happened without the generous support from its sponsors.
