Whitney Powers Named One of Charleston's "Most Influential"

Whitney Powers, AIA, president, Studio A, Inc.

Studio A’s president makes Charleston Home & Design’s 2010 list.

July 1, 2010 (CHARLESTON, SC) – Architect Whitney Powers, AIA, founding principal and president of Studio A, Inc., is featured in the summer edition of Charleston Home & Design magazine as one of the historic city’s “Most Influential Home and Design Professionals” of 2010.

Charleston Home & Design is a quarterly publication dedicated to home building, remodeling, and design.

About the “Most Influential” list, publisher Tim Barkley writes:  “These are the people who have created homes in the Charleston area and beyond that are admired and emulated by others. Their amazing work has been published in shelter magazines like Charleston Home & Design and some have even been recognized nationally. Homeowners have been so impressed that they’ve borrowed ideas and inspiration for their own homes. These home and design professionals deserve recognition and we honor their talents in this issue.”

Whitney Powers’ residential work ranges from a small addition and kitchen remodeling project in a ca. 1790s house, to a 5000-square-foot, thoroughly “green” waterfront home. Her contemporary work has been featured on HGTV’s “Extreme Living” show and in Coastal Living and Residential Architect magazines. Her historic preservation/restoration projects have received awards from the Preservation Society of Charleston and the Historic Charleston Foundation.

Named a “green goddess” by Skirt! magazine in 2008, Powers has been a strong advocate for sustainable architecture and environmental conservation since she founded her firm in 1989. South Carolina Woman published an article she wrote, entitled “Taking A Turn Towards A Sustainable Lifestyle in the Low country,” in 2009.

“Whitney continues to make an impact in the Charleston area with advocacy of affordable housing and green/sustainable decision-making,” Charleston Home & Design states.

The “Most Influential Home & Design Professionals 2010” spread also notes where those on the list shop locally for home and design products. Charleston Home & Design is available on newsstands and at www.newhomecharleston.com.
