Sullivan's Island resident Billy Shields has created a new way of fishing with his modified kite fishing system.

Shield's new system uses a much smaller and less expensive kite that can be used with any average fishing rod, line and rig, and carries six to eight ounce rigs. The kite system allows you to cast around 200 to 300 feet out.

Shields has also come up with kayak kite fishing for those who aren't a fan of offshore fishing.

The Moultrie News has the story on this local man's innovative inventions.
