Amber Campbell, a Myrtle Beach resident and graduate of Coastal Carolina University, scored the bronze medal for the U.S. women's Hammer Throw at the Pan-Am Games down in Guadalajara, Mexico.
The Pan American Games is an Olympic-style sporting event staged every four years that features athletes from countries throughout the Americas in various sporting competitions. CCU alum, Campbell, had a bronze winning throw of 69.93 meters and was just shy of Canadian silver medalist, Sultana Frizell's toss by 7 inches. The winning toss was by Cuban, Yipsi Moreno with a record throw of 75.62 meters.
The Sun News has a great write-up of Campbell and talks of high hopes of her performance at the 2012 Summer Olympic Games that will be held in London, England.
