The Charleston Battery has been named the USL-2 Organization of the Year.

The award is presented each year to one franchise in recognition of outstanding performances and excellence off the field during the previous season.

The award follows a tremendous season for the Charleston Battery that saw the veteran franchise win the USL-2 championship, enjoy increased average attendances, and play several high profile exhibition matches including a July game against the English Premier League’s Bolton Wanderers.

Charleston Battery President Andrew Bell said, “This is a fitting tribute to the hard work and long hours that our staff has invested into the Club over the past year. I am very proud of the team, the technical staff, the front office and our stadium crew all of whom have contributed with 100% effort to a wonderful season.”

The awards ceremony also featured USL Hall of Fame inductions with the late Betsy McAdams inducted in the Builder category. Betsy McAdams passed away in 2009 after a courageous battle with brain cancer. Betsy joined the Charleston Battery staff in 1993, the year the Club was formed; she went on to serve in a number of roles including Director of Operations and Director of Finance & Business Administration; she was named Chief Operating Officer in May 2008.

The Charleston Battery will kick off its 19th season in 2011 beginning with the annual pre-season tournament, the Carolina Challenge Cup featuring Major League Soccer. The 2011 USL Pro season will begin in early April; for tickets or more information please call (843) 971-4625 or visit www.charlestonbattery.com.
