With three games of national-ranking importance involving South Carolina teams, it was a good night to be from South Carolina, even if we all knew the would-be outcome before kickoff.
Read more stories on this subject in our college football topic page. And, sure enough, Clemson downed Middle Tennessee 37-14, the Citadel fell 6-40 to 21st-ranked UNC, and Charleston Southern got pummeled by 1st-ranked Florida 3-62.
Of course that's never all there is to the story.
- The Citadel's game involved some fun similar-color-scheme madness on the field. The Raleigh News & Observer has a nice write-up, and a bit of analysis from the UNC angle. The Post and Courier has some analysis from the Citadel angle.
- Despite an inspirational first possession, Charleston Southern was hopelessly outmatched. The Gainesville Sun has a nice write-up, but little from the CSU angle. The Post and Courier's write-up has more local factoids.
- With a 37-14 win, Clemson walked away inspired if a bit concerned over running back C.J. Spiller's "tweaked" hamstring. The State has a nice write-up, and links to peripheral stories.
That's about it for this weekend, next week we can look forward to Clemson at No. 15 Georgia Tech on Thursday, USC is also visiting Georgia to face No. 13 UGA on Saturday, CSU is headed off to face Wofford on Saturday, and The Citadel is taking a week off before facing Princeton on September 19.
