Children and families stayed active throughout the day with help from local organizations and live entertainment

Beautiful weather, great music and smiling, active children filled the Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry’s (CML) downtown campus this past Saturday during the 7th Annual Fam Jam which raised over $15,000 for Mission:Nutrition field trips, CML Play Days after-school program for Title One Students and exhibit upgrades.

Families took part in a series of fun-filled outdoor activities including angling big fish with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources to practicing their soccer skills with the City of Charleston Recreation Department.  The Electric Company kept the audience laughing, moving and grooving with fun skits and break dancing, children danced along with Zumbatomic® for Kids and participated in a martial arts demonstration with Japan Karate Institute.  The biggest hit was when the Hula Hoop-Off went into sudden death with two little girls hooping their hearts out for a custom made hula hoop from Heather’s Hoops and a family membership to CML.

“It’s great to see the community come together for an enjoyable, active day of play at the Museum; it proves that being healthy can be fun,” said Denis Chirles, Executive Director.

Fam Jam 2011 was presented by SunTrust Bank and News 2 / WCBD and sponsored by Anderson Insurance Associates, Ledford’s Termite & Pest Control, Retina Consultants of Charleston, Roper St. Francis Healthcare, Other Brother Entertainment and Y102.5.
