In a late Friday announcement The Post and Courier mentioned it and its parent company are consolidating and reorganizing.

In part:
Evening Post Community Publishing Group and The Post and Courier are consolidating into a new newspaper company called Evening Post Publishing Newspaper Group. ...

The consolidation is aimed at assisting the company in streamlining its newspaper operating units and finding new revenue opportunities and expense efficiencies in this increasingly complex and competitive media environment.

Even as a Post and Courier alumni I'm not quite sure what this means yet, we're digging and will let you know.

Back in July the company offered buy outs to its employees and citing tight times as the reason.

The company once employed more than 700. When it announced the July buyouts it said it employed 513, that number is likely below 500 at this point.

Update September 26: Chatted with someone who knows a bit more about the company and its past than I do. Despite the suspiciously cryptic note, this could simply be a much overdue move in the company's ownership to allow greater cooperation and efficiency between The Post and Courier and the company's smaller publications (Moultrie News, Summerville-Journal Scene, etc.).

But, on a pessimistic note, efficiency gains always allow opportunities for "redundancies."
