Police search for driver who hit, killed Summerville boy

Tyler Capers, 9, died Wednesday night after being struck by a driver on the 4-lane 45-mph Ladson Road at 10:13 (map is below).

Capers, who lived near the area and was apparently crossing the road by himself, was taken to the Summerville Medical Center where he died at 10:49 p.m. The hospital was just a mile away.

But police are receiving conflicting reports about what the vehicle looked like, while some bystanders described a GMC Jimmy SUV, others described a Dodge Neon sedan. But all seemed to agree the vehicle was dark in color. The car probably has front end damage, if you spot a car matching that description call highway patrol at 953-6010.

ABC News 4 has a good but brief interview with the family, here's an excerpt of quotes from the boy's mother, Lucy Capers:
I left him in his room and I guess when I went to sleep he just left.

...

I'm just going to always hope my son is ok, it was just his time to go.

Whoever hit the boy is, of course, being asked to turn themselves in.
