Aiming to recover $13.3 million in mid-year budget cuts, the Charleston County School Board is requiring that 10- and 11-month employees take three days without pay. The move is expected to save nearly $200,000.

Read more stories on this subject in our school topic page.In January the school district required year-round employees to take 4 day furloughs, and the district is awaiting legislation that will allow furloughing of teachers.

Also proposed as a way to save as much as $2.5 million next year, officials proposed either charging or flat out eliminating bus transportation to magnet schools. An official proposal and more debate will come on that matter at a later date.
