73.1% of South Carolinians favor more drilling off the coast, according to a poll conducted by Winthrop University and ETV.

Read more stories on this subject in our offshore drilling topic page. The poll also uncovered that respondents, on average, erronously believed it would take 6 years for the oil to hit the market. The government has stated they expect it to take 30 years -- an oft-repeated line. But the mental effect of the drilling will likely have a large impact on future expectations of supply, reducing price.

Also worth remembering is that the effect, while it could be large in the short term, will not do us much good in the long term unless we really start to move away from fossil fuel.

No word on how the survey responders would feel if the drilling is off the South Carolina coast.
