Update November 3: It's official, the DMV has enough orders and the plates will be made. They'll be available in about a month.

Original post: The long anticipated (dreaded?) license plates are almost here. The S.C. Department of Motor Vehicles is waiting on 400 people to reserve a plate before manufacturing them.

If at least 400 don't reserve one by May 1, the plate won't be made. But that may all be a moot point, as someone could give the office $4,000 to make the plate, and Lt. Gov. Andrea Bauer had said he'd be willing to.

The plate has been quite controversial, and already the target of a lawsuit.

At any rate, hop over to the DMV site to reserve a plate for $5 now and $24 later, or go to The State to read more about it.
