22 year-old Hurricane Hugo video reminds Myrtle Beach of destruction

Hurricane Hugo struck Myrtle Beach early on September 22nd in 1989 and left a indelible reminder that we are vulnerable to the whims of Mother Nature.

The nostalgia runs thick on our "You know you're from Myrtle Beach if..." Facebook group and it's evident Hugo is a big part of many locals' memories. WPDE has a short write-up and video interview with a local and how Hugo impacted him. See them here.

This YouTube video was uploaded a couple years ago and takes us on a tour from Myrtle Beach State Park up to Little River in a Blackhawk helicopter. The voice-over is none other than the late Governor Carroll Campbell.
