Coastal Carolina’s Ross to have surgery on injured shoulder

Coastal Carolina quarterback Alex Ross played most of the Chanticleers’ NCAA FCS quarterfinals game at North Dakota State last Saturday after sustaining a significant injury to his throwing shoulder, and the team announced that he will have surgery Thursday.

Asked Wednesday about indications Ross had played through a separated shoulder, offensive coordinator Dave Patenaude confirmed, but in the news release that followed the school would only say officially that the quarterback was having surgery on his “throwing arm.”

Ross’ Coastal Carolina teammates did not learn of the injury until the next day.
