River Oaks third grader youngest local member of Mensa
John Sumter's favorite class may not be one he's taken already at River Oaks Elementary School.
It may be the class he took through Johns Hopkins University over the summer.
"You had to read three stories about dragons," said eight-year-old Sumter. "I chose that genre." Sumter was eligible to take the Hopkins class--online only because he is so young--after his MAP test scores were high enough to qualify him to take another round of tests that qualified him for the class. Only two River Oaks students scored high enough. In order to get a discount on the tuition for the Hopkins class, John qualified to become a member of Mensa.
