End of tourist season brings more jobless in Horry, Georgetown

Horry County’s unemployment rate rose 0.6 points to 7.4 percent in November as the tourist industry shed 2,100 jobs statewide for the off-season, according to information from the state Department of Employment and Workforce.

With that, though, the leisure and hospitality industry had the second highest year-over-year gain in jobs, totaling 8,600 more this November versus November 2013.

Professional and business services led year-to-year job gain statistics, DEW statistics showed, adding more than 20,000 jobs since November 2013.

Georgetown County also saw a drop off in employment with an 0.3 point gain to 6.8 percent unemployed.
