Southeastern Regional Wheelchair Games this weekend in North Myrtle Beach

The 20th Annual Southeastern Regional Wheelchair Games will be held April 11-13 in North Myrtle Beach. The games are sponsored by the Southeastern Wheelchair Sports Association (member Wheelchair & Ambulatory Sports USA) and the North Myrtle Beach Aquatic & Fitness Center.

More than 30 athletes from throughout the southeast will participate in events that include swimming, track and field, weightlifting, air rifle competition, and archery. The Southeastern Regional Wheelchair Games are open to all ages.

There will also be an exhibition of Boccia, a precision ball sport similar to bocce. The sport is contested on the local, national and international levels by athletes with more severe physical disabilities. It was originally designed to be played by people with cerebral palsy but now includes athletes with other severe disabilities affecting motor skills.

On April 11 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. people with disabilities will have the opportunity to participate in several Paralympic sports, wheelchair tennis, an air rifle clinic, and field events such as shot put, discus and javelin throws. The Paralympic Experience will take place at the J. Bryan Floyd Community Center on Possum Trot Road.
