Martin Luther King To Be Remembered in Myrtle Beach During Weekend Freedom Rally

The life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King will once again be front and center during the Sixth Annual Freedom Rally held throughout the Myrtle Beach area from Jan. 18 through Jan. 20, 2014.

“The three days of activities are fantastic, with the workshops that encourage business development and partnering, as well as the Carolina Talent Search and all the young people who will be singing in tribute to Dr. King,” said Bennie Swans, chairman of the Carolina African American Heritage Foundation. “We are so pleased with the diversity of faith organizations and businesses that are a part of it.”

Events kick off at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 18, with a call for a day of community service. Workshops, the Carolina Talent Search competition, an awards banquet and the Sixth Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Freedom Rally Parade are just a few of the other events that will continue throughout this weekend of celebration in the Myrtle Beach area.

“Dr. King’s life and his mission continue to be just as important today as it was 50 years ago,” said Brad Dean, president and CEO of the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce. “We are proud to help in honoring that legacy by taking part in this year’s Freedom Rally.”
