Horry County Board of Education welcomes new members, interim superintendent

The Horry County Board of Education swore in three fresh faces Monday, welcomed Rick Maxey to his first board meeting as interim superintendent and elected a new vice chairman - all in the first meeting of the new year.

Holly Heniford, Sherrie Todd and Ray Winters were sworn as new members while Pam Timms, Janet Graham and Neil James took the oath after their re-elections last year. Heniford replaces Harvey Eisner and represents district 1; Todd replaces Karen McIlrath and represents district 2; and Winters replaces Jimmy Washington as district 3 representative.

“It was a different experience,” Winters said of being seated on the board instead of in the audience. “To know if I had something to say it would matter.”

Winters was quiet during the meeting but said he’ll grow more vocal once he’s acclimated to board procedures and processes – especially on important issues facing the board.
