Kids in Architecture DESIGN BUILD PLAY

Please join us as we celebrate 100 years of the American Institute of Architects in South Carolina. The AIA-SC, AIA Grand Strand, Clemson University, and the Children’s Museum of South Carolina invite your children to participate in a unique workshop that will foster a better understanding of the process of architecture, AND be fun!!!

The workshops will employ a teaching method known as Reggio Emilia to stimulate the children to both the knowledge and practice of creating architecture. Each child will create their own expression guided by architectural students and local, professional architects from our community. Their expression will be incorporated into a large-scale exhibit within the museum. The children can keep their own creation to bring home. Hourly Workshops are being held on Columbus Day: Monday, October 14 from 9:00am – 3:00pm, and then again on Saturday, October 19, from 9:00am – 12:00pm. In addition to the workshops, the Children’s Museum will also feature interactive exhibits on construction including the “Under Construction House”, Imagination Playground, and a Lego exhibit where children will have an opportunity to stretch their imaginations using Legos on loan from the AIA Grand Strand. The entire event is part of the CMSC’s DESIGN BUILD PLAY event, and is open to the public for a reduced admission rate of $4 per person, with kids under 24 months being free of charge.
