Myrtle Beach man charged in Christmas Day machete attack

A Myrtle Beach man was charged with attempted murder in connection with a woman being attacked with a machete on Christmas Day in Horry County, authorities said.

Fidencio Arguello Sarmiento, 40, was booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center at 12:02 p.m. Tuesday on a charge of attempted murder and two unrelated failure to appear summons, according to jail records.

Sarmiento was being held at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday on $5,000 bond on the attempted murder charge and $150 each on the failure to appear charges, jail records showed.

Horry County police were called at 9 a.m. Dec. 25 to 6700 Enterprise Road for a man using a machete on a woman, according to a police report. Officers found a 34-year-old woman on the couch with cuts to her arms and hands.
