Myrtle Beach Speedway to offer free race admission beginning July 11 (Update: Cooler policy)

Update July 11, 2013: Good news, we were wrong about the update to the cooler policy at the Myrtle Beach Speedway.

In our original article below, I stated that no coolers were allowed this season. As a result, we received the following from the speedway, clarifying their rule regarding what type of coolers are permitted into the grandstands:

The policy of the speedway has been and continues to be six pack personal size coolers, are admitted to the grand stands.  There is box that the cooler must fit in at the main gate.  The dimensions are 12 inches by 16 inches which are adequate for a personal size cooler.  We have always tried to provide a family friendly environment for families with small children and adults and their needs concerning hydration and liquid nourishment.

We apologize for the error. So stay thirsty, my friends, and enjoy the races. Their new pricing starts tonight.

First report: Beginning on July 11, 2013, the Myrtle Beach Speedway will discontinue its practice of charging for race tickets and move forward with a policy that includes free admission and a $15 fee for parking. In almost all cases, that's a savings for race attendees.

This change is among several for this year, including a shift in the race schedule from Saturday evenings to Thursdays. Presumably this new schedule attracts a larger tourist audience as Saturday is well known to be a day of transition for those visiting the area. Another change is the coolers are no longer allowed.

Wheels of Destruction continues to thrill audiences each Wednesday night at 8 p.m. There will continue to be an admission fee for this stunt show and all other events, unless otherwise noted. For the latest on events at the track, follow the Myrtle Beach Speedway on Facebook.
