Surveillance cameras installed at some Horry County area boat landings

The installation of new surveillance cameras at six Horry County boat landings was completed Thursday after a slow, rocky start.

Workers on-site at Red Bluff Landing said a demonstration of the cameras is slated for Friday, and Lisa Bourcier, spokeswoman for Horry County, said there will be some training with the new equipment.

“The poles were up before Christmas,” Bourcier said. “Once they’re installed, we have to do testing. The police department will take over the testing and assume the oversight of data.”

The cameras were initially supposed to be put up by WildFire Connections, but the company never made significant progress, so the county sued it for more than $65,000.
