Reflecting the racing world’s growing adoption of themed events, Kimbia Racing today announces three race organizations that are the latest to select the company as their technology partner for participant registration and participant relationship management: Running Scared 5K, Tomato Dodge and Take It To The Streets.

The most popular themed races have runners crossing the finish line doused in fake blood, tomato juice, mud or colored powder. Adding a novel element of fun and messiness — which participants love to document with photos shared through social media — contributes to the increasing popularity of running in large noncompetitive, social events.

Running Scared is a 5K that participants run, walk or crawl as they traverse a zombie apocalypse-inspired course. With no time keeping, the object of this run is not to be the fastest but to make it to the finish line without being "infected" by runners in zombie costumes. The Running Scared 5K is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013, in Mount Pleasant, SC.

Inspired by Spain's annual La Tomatina festival,Tomato Dodge is "an event that combines a fun run (5K) with a tomato food fight that would make the Spaniards jealous," according to its organizers. Designed to give people a reason to get outside, get moving and have fun, the race can be walked or run, and the course even has a tomato pit.

“Flexible functionality and a supportive services team has made Kimbia a perfect fit for us, and we are looking forward to building upon our relationship as Tomato Dodge continues to expand throughout the country,” said Tomato Dodge Marketing Director Christian Stephens. Upcoming Tomato Dodge events are planned this year in Oklahoma City and Syracuse, NY.

The Take It To The Streets 5K Run & Fall Festival is more than a run. Organized by a nonprofit that raises awareness about the needs of families and students in North Charleston, SC, the event also will feature health screenings, a mini job fair and a chance for students to meet with representatives from local colleges. The event is set for Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013.

With Kimbia Racing, each race organization is able to:

    • Provide a strongly branded experience for participants through the use of customized registration forms on its website versus the standard industry practice of sending participants to a third-party site. This is especially relevant for themed races that must differentiate themselves from direct competitors.

    • Fully own and control all registration data and funds, which typically is not the case with other race solutions. All data in the Kimbia platform is available, reportable and exportable in real time and never used for any purpose outside the client’s control, such as third-party marketing for other events and products. Also, funds are immediately deposited directly into the client’s account and never received, controlled and held by a third party.

  • Empower race participants to efficiently register teams online and leverage their social networks to deliver greater registrations — and reward them for doing so.
