ARTworks: the Annual Meeting & Arts Awards

Maybe you've attended a fabulous concert or taken an inspiring workshop, but do you really know how ARTworks in the Lowcountry? On Wednesday, September 1, the public and media are invited to attend ARTworks' annual meeting, to get up-to-date on the progress made by the fast-moving and sure-footed Arts Council of Beaufort, Port Royal and the Sea Islands. For example: auditions and theater expansion; ARTseenSC the national marketing program; and a continuation of everybody's favorite— concerts, plays, and more concerts!

The annual meeting is from 6 to 8pm in the 12,000 square foot creativity machine that is ARTworks in Beaufort Town Center. Guests will peruse working artist studios and the gallery, witness the brief business meeting, enjoy refreshments and the silent art auction, and hail the 2010 awardees:

Sandra Welch Miller Volunteer of the Year Award ~ Erika Pyle
From the moment you walked in the door we knew we could count on you. Whether it's pouring wine at an opening or working “back of house” for a variety of events, we know you’ll be there to support the work of the organization. Thanks for walking in the front door, we’re glad you did!

Educator of the Year Award ~ C.J. Norwood
This award is granted to an educator who weaves the arts in to the everyday lives of students. You have been an afterschool teacher at ARTworks since the program began and have been an integral part of creating an important art education program for Beaufort County students. In addition, you created and successfully implemented a quality summer camp program that has now completed its second year. The Board of Directors and Staff congratulate you and wish you well as you complete your degree and fulfill your student teaching requirement.

Business Partner of the Year.~ Beaufort Jasper Hampton Comprehensive Health
The award recognizes significant contributions to the arts and culture in Beaufort County. Beaufort-Jasper-Hampton Comprehensive Health has been a long-time supporter of the Arts Council of Beaufort County. Because of you and your organizations support, the ACBC has grown substantially in the last 4 years. The ACBC now provides important quality arts education programs to county youth, created a unique community arts venue, and produces community arts events with various partners across the county. Without the support of BJHCH, we could not impact as many county residents as we do.

Town of Port Royal Mayor’s Award for the Arts ~ Jeff Coppinger, Public Works
Without your efforts, the art and culture scene in Port Royal simply could not happen. You work “behind the scenes” from setting up stages and tents, to ensuring that roads are closed and all support systems for large crowds are available are why the arts events are so successful. For all of these reasons, the ACBC Board of Director’s recommended you receive this award from Mayor Murray.
 
Town of Hilton Head Island Mayor’s Award for the Arts ~ Natalie Hefter, VP of Programs, Coastal Discovery Museum
Your work to establish the Art Market at Honey Horn has created an arts event that people throughout Beaufort County and the region look forward to every year. Year after year, the market has grown and the quality of artists continues to attract new quality artists from across the country. In addition, you have contributed greatly to the Hilton Head/Bluffton Chamber of Commerce Art Committee that ensures effective communications amongst southern Beaufort County organizations and successfully schedules and promotes the BRAVO for the arts program.  For all of these reasons and your overarching commitment to quality programming, the ACBC Board of Director’s recommended you receive this award from Mayor Peeples.

Your support of this organization and other cultural organizations in the community is extremely important and valuable. In addition, you are an inspiration to artists in our community and a significant part of the fabric of our community. For these reasons, the ACBC Board of Director’s recommended you receive this award from Mayor Keyserling.

Town of Bluffton Mayor’s Award for the Arts ~ Society of Bluffton Artists
Your organization has a long history of ensuring that the Town of Bluffton is recognized as an arts destination. SOBA has also not only provided a supportive home for local artists to display and sell their work but created education programs to help artists continue to grow. For this reason, the ACBC Board of Director’s recommended SOBA receive this award from Mayor Sulka.
