Edible designs and entertainment: Five Minutes with Sheri and Gary Davis

If you think Sheri Davis of Bluffton looks familiar, you're right. The local cake maker was recently part of TLC's "Fabulous Cakes." Viewers watched with anticipation as she constructed a wide mouth bass and a dog into an amazing fondant and sugar sculpture.

In less than four years, Sheri of Sheri's Edible Designs has skyrocketed into the confectionary hall of fame as a go-to cake maker. The title "cake maker" hardly does her justice. The artist has won numerous awards, including Taste of the Season, twice. Her works have been featured in "Every Day with Rachel Ray," "Charleston Weddings," "Beaufort Lifestyle" and CH2, to name a few.

Recently, her husband, Gary Davis, established Destination One Entertainment, a DJ/MC service for events. Together, they have become a force to be reckon with in the wedding industry.

I sat with the dynamic duo for my "Five Minutes With" feature on my business blog for Bragg Media.

Q: What was it like being on TLC's "Fabulous Cakes"? Will we be seeing any more of Sheri's Edible Designs on TV in the future?

Sheri: The entire experience with TLC's 'Fabulous Cakes' has been surreal! I typically work alone, so having a crew here to follow my every move and share my emotion was incredible. It's been such a ride! Moving forward, I won't rule out the possibility of doing more TV, but I really enjoy working and living in Hilton Head. Creating cakes for my clients is what is most valuable to me. If there were a delicate balance between positively bringing more exposure to my art form and meeting the needs of my clients, I would love to do it again.

Gary:
Being a part of the production for TLC's Fabulous Cakes was a great experience. The hours were extremely long and demanding during the 3 days of filming and took a toll on us. But all the sweat and tears (literally) were worth it when we surprised the groom (and Bride!) with the cake on their wedding day. Sheri and I both looked at each other shortly after that and said never again. That however changed a few hours later after dinner and a drink. Will there be Fabulous Cakes 2.0?? You will have to wait and see!
