Soft Shell Crab Festival is Saturday

The 11th annual festival arrives in Port Royal this Saturday, April 19, from noon to 5 — with plnty more besides crabs: burgers, ice cream, BBQ, and even a crab race are on the schedule.

Here are detail from the even organizers:

Spring is the time for soft shell crabs and the Old Village in Port Royal is the place to get them in any form imaginable. The opportunity for soft shell crab is quick. It only comes once a year and the 11th annual Soft Shell Crab Festival is the chance to savor these delicacies. Local restaurants will serve up varieties of soft shell crab in clever variations. If crab isn’t your thing, barbeque, burgers, ice cream, other seafood and more also will be available.

Organizers expect food vendors, artists and crafters lined up on Paris Avenue. Children activities, live music and entertainment for individuals of all ages. Once again, a classic car show will feature dozens of old-school vehicles.

The festival will also feature the annual crab race where approximately 5,000 rubber crabs are “adopted” by festival attendees for $10 each. The crab will be dropped into Battery Creek at 5:00 pm and the owner of the crab to cross the finish line at the Observation Deck will receive a $2,000 cash prize. Additional cash prizes will be awarded for the 2nd to 10th crab finishers. For more information and to adopt a crab, go to www.PortRoyalCrabRace.com.

Have never been to such a

Have never been to such a festival. Cool. While studying at Massachusetts Maritime Academy, I used to write my essay and term papers on Culture of Wild Lands. The subject was divided into 3 categories - and I was given a land one - the marine category was taken by my fellow.
So, the three of us had to travel the wild land of the USA and look for the species among people who could be treasures of the cultural research.
