Each course is offered at TCL’s New River campus beginning at 10:00 a.m. and concluding at 12:00 o’clock and costs $59 per class per person. Part I: Where to begin to make your decorating dreams a reality is offered on Saturday, August 13th. Part II: How to make a furniture arrangement work in any room of any size is offered on Saturday, August 20th. Part III: Add Pro-Looking finishing touches to your home is offered on Saturday, August 27th.

Consumers have become increasing engaged in the art of interior design. The process of designing, developing and installing architectural interiors and their furnishings has flourished with the increasing availability and access to home furnishing retailers, cable television decorating shows and do-it-yourself publications.

Color is both the simplest and the strongest expression of a room’s personality. A well thought out palette can re-energize interiors and create a completely new atmosphere for a room. “Mistakes can be expensive in the design world,” says professional interior designer Christy Michner. “Armed with some basic concepts in using color anyone create exceptional living environments.”

Ms. Michner will offer a class dedicated to color on Saturday, June 18 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon at Technical College of the Lowcountry’s (TCL) New River campus. The cost to attend this class is $59 per person. This class is the sixth offering in the How Do Interior Designers Do It? series taught by Ms. Michner.  She believes each class in the series will teach attendees, of all skill levels, how to create beautiful and functional spaces.

The Color Your World class will help attendees use color they love in creating their own personal color story, shed light on several basic design concepts, including why some colors work well together, the effects of warm or cool colors in a living space, and explore how to enhance any room and give it a personal touch using color.

Christy Michner is the principle designer at Christy Michner Residential Design LLC, based on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.  She is originally from St. Louis, Missouri where she earned an A.A.S. in Interior Design in 2003 and earned her allied A.S.I.D. status in 2004.  While still a student, she gained national recognition by winning the prestigious Kravet Award.  She’s worked with clients from Hilton Head Island to Vail, Colorado and has been featured several times in St. Louis Home and Lifestyles and Better Homes and Gardens. In 2009 and 2010, she won four Lighthouse Awards and the state-wide Pinnacle Award on the design and building of her own home. Her passion is to create and develop individual personalized residential architectural floor-plans and furniture plans. Whether working on new home design or remodeling projects, she prefers to work from the inside out, giving particular attention to lifestyle, furniture placement and efficient use of space; thereby, divulging the essence of her design philosophy: that in addition to a beautiful exterior and interior aesthetics a home must first function practically and comfortably.
