If you yearn to experience the joy of playing piano but don't want to spend hours engaged in a traditional approach then a short course offered at the Technical College of the Lowcountry in chord piano techniques may just be the avenue to unleash the inner musician in you.

Instant Piano for Hopelessly Busy People is a proven, fun and relaxed approach to professional style piano playing that sets the learner on a course to playing favorite tunes after only one session.

The reasons to play piano vary, from delivering a personalized wedding proposal, to reentering lessons after a failed prior attempt to learn piano, to a strong desire in satisfying an item on a personal bucket list. Thus, the idea that one could attend a short course, averting all the usual pitfalls a busy life presents in making time commitments, generates a great deal of interest in the instant quotient of such a class.

David Haynes has offered Instant Piano over the past ten years in over 100 college settings in twenty states. “Playing by chords is the way popular piano players have always played, and is appropriate when playing any type of popular music, including gospel, country, blues, boogie, Christmas carols, show tunes, standards—anything except classical music written  by the likes of Beethoven or Mozart,” says Haynes. Haynes has taught music for 35 years and has a Master’s Degree in music education, teaching traditionally for much of the time, but he now travels the Eastern and Midwestern US inspiring thousands of people in his classes with his enthusiasm and love of music.

The success of Mr.Hayne’s instruction is in the application of the training CD and work book of songs that students take home after the class to assist in remembering the concepts and step by step process to playing songs that they learned in class. Time Magazine featured a piece written by Sarah Vowell on her continued education and experience with this technique, you can read that item here.

Instant piano is offered on Wednesday, July 13 6:00 to 9:30 p.m. The class is primarily lecture and demonstration and participants are not asked to play in front of anyone during the course.  The cost to attend this class is $55 per person.  In addition, there is a $25 materials fee paid directly to the instructor for the resources that enable participants to take what they learn in class and continue their piano experience.
