Three plays in three days at the Hilton Head Island New Play Festival

The South Carolina Repertory Company is hosting its first Hilton Head Island New Play Festival from Friday, August 20, to that Sunday, August 22.

The sessions are designed as chances for locals to get exposed to new works and for the play authors to get feedback and insights, as such each reading is followed by a Q&A session. Each is $10, or $20 for all three.

The schedule is:

  • Friday "Catholic Girl Gun Club" by Stacia St. Owens, director Nick Newell. Set after World War I in which girls are taught gun skills in preparation for the coming Communist threat.
  • Saturday "Ephemera" by Bryce Wissel, director Jim Stark. Three humans plus a lovesick robot plus an apeman in outer space.
  • Sunday "The Baristas" by James Rasheed, director Blake White. Ex-girlfriend brings her husband to old boyfriend's girlfriends' beach house.

Gail Westerfield wrote a bit about the concept of the event over at The Island Packet.

Get reservations by calling (843) 342-2057. They're at 136 Beach City Road on Hilton Head.
