Breakwater hosts a $10 wine tasting, snacks

Broaden your pallet and nosh on a crab stack and "other hot hor d'ouerves" at Breakwater's wine tasting event tonight, August 6, from 6 to 7:30.

Five wines are up for tasting tonight, and the restaurant will be holding similar events each Friday through at least the month of August.

Here's the descriptions of the wines from the restaurant:

Castillo Perelada Cava Brut Rosado, Penedes, Spain Rosé colour of medium intensity, limpid and brilliant. Generous stream of fine bubbles, forming a crown. Clean aroma of red fruits. Smooth, complex, elegant in the mouth. Good tasting balance, persistent.

Pazo Serantellos Albarino, D.O. Rias Baixas, Spain Made from 100% Albariño, Pazo Serantellos is a classic wine from Spain’s cool “green” coast in the northwest corner of the country. This wine offers peach, nectarine and honeysuckle aromas. The palate is plush and round with a firm backbone of acidity for perfect balance. It has ripe flavors of pear, melon and citrus. Try it paired with grilled fish, shell fish or as an excellent cocktail wine.

Nautilus Estate Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough, NZ A lifted aroma of gooseberry, blackcurrant bud and dried thyme. The palate introduces passionfruit. The wine has a rich mid palate with good texture and a lively zingy finish.

Benegas Malbec "Juan Benegas", Mendoza, Argentina Primarily, it shows red fruits and floral aromas. Intense flavors with a great persistence in the mouth. Juicy, rich tannins with a soft, round finish.

Jim Barry Shiraz "The Lodge Hill", Clare Valley Lifted aromas of mulberry, raspberry, coffee, kirsch.Mouth-filling flavors of bramble, chocolate, menthol, rosemary. Stuctural wine with delicate, sensual and ripe tannins.
