Beaufort Dog at Habersham are inviting the entire community to attend their Pet and Kid Fair, Saturday, April 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. No worries if you don't have a pet; this event is open to all of Beaufort, and general admission is free.

For dog owners, Beaufort Dog has both educational and fun things on the schedule. Guest speakers will discuss topics such as general health, nutrition, and behavior. Dr. Robert Smith, of Sea Island Animal Hospital, will be on hand to provide microchipping services ($36); while Dr. Barber will provide brief physical exams along with vaccinations (see below for details and pricing).

Therapy Dogs International will be providing information on their services, and the American Kennel Club (AKC) will hold a crate drive. Bring used crates along with bedding and blankets to donate to the local animal shelter. They'll use these supplies in the case of a hurricane evacuation.

Pets and their owners will be able to have a bit of fun, too. Beaufort Dog's pedicure booth will provide pooches with a nail trim and nail polish for $10. For playful pups, they can head over to the doggie playground and play games (think musical chairs and cake walks for dogs). Plus Islands Meat Market will have samples of animal bones that are safe for dogs.

If you're in the market for a new pet, make sure to visit the various animal shelters and rescues that will have pets available for adoption on site. Two different Golden Retriever rescue groups will be in attendance with Goldens looking for permanent homes.

Don't have a pet and don't want one? Well come on out anyway, and bring your kids to the Kid Fair. Sponsored by Jumpin Jaxx, the company will have four inflatables on site, as well as carnival games and refreshments. For a $5 admission, children can play all day. Tux the Clown will be there delighting children with his balloon animals, and photographer Nadine O'Quinn will be snapping pictures.
