South Carolina is largely a pass-through state when it comes to the presidenatal vote in November (hint: the state will go for the Republican), but that doesn't mean that local Democrats will sit idly by, or not be making the case for Democrat candidates in local and state races.

Three months of political fun will start on Saturday, August 18, from 10 to 11 a.m. when the local Democrat office opens with a rally at 705 Carteret Street. (We've yet to hear about the Republican office. If you know, get in touch.)

Here's more info about their plans, events, and how you can get involved:

Democrats to Open Beaufort Campaign HQ, Hold Rally Aug. 18

Interested in volunteering to help President Barack Obama and other democratic candidates get elected or re-elected, but don't know who to contact or where to go?

Then attend one of the upcoming Democratic Volunteer Training Sessions, which will be held during the Soft Opening of the Beaufort County Democratic Party's 2012 Democratic Party Headquarters for Northern Beaufort County. The Volunteer Training Sessions are scheduled for Aug. 13-17, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The BCDP Headquarters will be located at 705 Carteret St., near the University of South Carolina Beaufort campus, between Prince and Duke streets in Beaufort's Historic District. It'll be sharing space with the Beaufort County campaign headquarters of Democratic First Congressional District candidate Bobbie Rose of Charleston.

Its hours of operation will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday. And the telephone number for the soon to open headquarters is 521-2012, according to Beth Young, coordinator of the Beaufort headquarters.

Members of both the Northern Beaufort County Democratic Club, and the Democratic Women of Beaufort group will provide volunteers to help staff the headquarters.

The official Grand Opening of the 2012 Beaufort County Democratic Party Headquarters in Beaufort has been set for Saturday, Aug. 18, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

The Grand Opening will immediately be followed by the 2012 Democratic Party Campaign Kick-off Rally on St. Helena Island at Penn Center's Darrah Hall, which will begin at 12 noon.

State Rep. Kenneth Hodges will be the keynote speaker for the Campaign Kick-off Rally. Other invited guest speakers include Democratic First Congressional District candidate Bobbie Rose, and local Democratic elected officials and candidates.

Non-partisan school board candidates will also have an opportunity to meet and greet rally attendees.

The rally will feature live entertainment and refreshments.

Both events are free and open to the public.

Its hours of operation are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday; and 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays, according to David Rice, President of the Democratic Club of Beaufort County South of the Broad, which runs the headquarters with support from members of the Sun City Democratic Club.
