There are ways to make your house less boring and it doesn't have to be an outrageously expensive or an overly intensive undertaking. Making a few subtle yet eye-catching changes can bring a rather plain or unexciting home up a notch or two. In order to get the creative juices flowing, take a hard look at the areas of your home that could use a boost to brighten and uplift those spaces that are static and require improvement. You will be glad you did for boredom's sake.

1. Flooring

If dull, old or worn out carpeting and linoleum are detracting from the environment of a house and making it appear lifeless and boring, it is a fairly simple and inexpensive process to replace old carpeting and linoleum with wood laminate flooring, particularly in living and dining areas. This kind of flooring choice not only gives an even flow to the floors of a house, but it provides a fresh, clean and welcoming feeling to a home. Other options for house boredom relief are French glass doors that open out to a patio, deck, or outdoor area, which would bring more exposure and added light to darker rooms. Actual lighting fixtures can bring cheerful elements to any room of a house. Recessed ceiling lights, track lighting and pendant lights will all increase unique focus to any room.

3. Cabinetry, Woodwork, Painting, and Accessorizing

Small touches to a home can step up its appearance and take away from boring elements. Kitchen cabinets can be replaced, or their fronts can be taken down, sanded, stained, or painted to reflect a totally new look. Cabinet hardware can be switched out to reveal a new and fresh appearance as well. New pulls, knobs, handles, and hinge pieces can make a world of difference with the look of a cabinet.

If you're going to update the cabnits, it's also time to get rid of any countertop in your home that is from the 90s. Bright colors, solid colors and plastic coutnertops are a thing of the past.  Painting a room can reduce boredom to a minimum if the right colors, textures, and contrast colors are utilized. Even wallpaper placed in small spots can be interspersed with selected paint colors, which can maximize the intensity of a room. Bright and airy colors stimulate comfort and delight while darker colors add vividness and draw attention to a room.

 Accessorizing throughout a house can be one of the easiest and least expensive ways of making a house less boring. Wall hangings, artwork, architectural pieces, baskets, metal lettering and phrases, shelving, photograph groupings, and other items can take a bare wall and blah area to a whole new level. Accent pieces such as colorful couch and bed pillows, throws, trays, storage bins, ottomans, silk and dried flower arrangements, wreaths, planters and plants, ceramics, frames, and collections can make an uninteresting and boring space a new haven for gatherings and family enjoyment.
