After a cold weather delay, shrimp season is here in South Carolina

DNR

Thanks to the cold weather hampering shrimp breeding, the South Carolina season got off to a later start, but as of Wednesday the season is now open.

The late start isn't good news for an already shaky industry in South Carolina, but there is still hope.

This season is the first of three in the state that focuses on the larger white shrimp and will dovetail into the second with the smaller brown ones.

If you'd like to get some more background on the woes the cold weather has inflicted on this year's crop, check out this S.C. DNR video primer.

In the meantime, celebrate the arrival of shrimp season by whipping up a batch of Southern Graces' shrimp and grits.
