Friendly's bids farewell to Beaufort, Port Royal (update: 'It's the economy')

Goodbye Friendly's

Update May 16: Apologies for the erroneous republishing, we had a technical glitch.

First reporting September 10, updates at the bottom.

Friendly's Restaurant in Port Royal is the latest in a string of area businesses to announce that they're closing.

According to a sign up on the door, the restaurant will close at 3 p.m. September 12.

The sign goes on to say:

Thank you for 10 great years.

- Your Friendly's Family

According to a spokesman with Friendly's corporate headquarters the decision to close the shop was made by the franchisee and not corporate.

So if you're craving a Friendly's Sunday you better get  it before the 12th, because according to the restaurant's website the next closest shop is 140 miles away in Myrtle Beach.

As we said the Friendly's closing is the latest and comes on the heels of Kathleen's and Bay Street Trading Company announcing that they're going out of business.

Update September 13: The Island Packet has a brief on the closure which is most noticeable for the quote pointing the finger at the economy; take a read here.
