Beaufort City Council doles out $155,000 in accommodations tax grants

Those extra pennies charged to locals and tourists that stay overnight in Beaufort add up — and on Tuesday Beaufort City Council assigned $155,000 worth of pennies.

(And, yes, this is separate decision from the county process that has drawn ire for shooting down the Lt. Dan request.)

Of the $155,000, the lion's share ($109,000, or 70.3%) went to Main Street Beaufort USA and the Visitor and Convention Bureau (which recently decided not to split into two groups.)

I'll point you over to The Island Packet for the full breakout.
