Once again the City of Beaufort is giving the gift of free parking for the holiday season.

The City Council on Tuesday night approved its annual free holiday parking plan. According to Main Street Beaufort, USA, free, two-hour parking for downtown Beaufort will run from Thanksgiving until New Year's Day.

Here's what you need to know:

• Free, 2-hour parking in the 2- & 4-hour zones
• The Downtown Marina parking lot is excluded from this
• The 2-hour limit will be enforced

The city, Main Street and merchants hope this free parking will usher more people downtown to shop and eat.

As an aside, the city of Savannah already has started offering its free holiday parking in city-owned lots down there.
