In Bluffton tow truck slaying, accused Oates granted bail - on a condition

Update September 1: The Island Packet reports that Oates has been released on a $200,000 bond.

First reporting July 29: Six months after Preston Oates was arrested after the Christmas Eve shooting of Carlos Alberto Olivera over a booted vehicle in a Bluffton subdivision, Oates has been granted bail — if a condition can be met.

In order to be allowed to post a $200,000 bail, Oates will need to pass a psychiatric evaluation in August to determine if he is a threat.

For details, I'll refer you to Bluffton Today's report or the raw video from the courtroom by WSAV.

Oates has been in jail since his arrest on December 27. If you're just walking into the story about Olivera being shot six times, head to our topic page to get all the info you need.
