Seabrook man arrested after Gray's Hill shooting

Jerry Maurice Wright

Jerry Maurice Wright, 21, was arrested just after 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 22, after a shooting at 16 Paradise Lane in Burton [map below] that left one man injured.

Beaufort County sheriff's deputies responded to the reported gunshot at the home at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday. Upon arrival, deputies made contact with 18-year old Shaquille Jenkins who had been shot in the leg and witnesses said that the shooting had been the result of an alleged altercation between Jenkins and Wright over the discipline of a minor sibling to Jenkins.

Witnesses alleged that when Jenkins stepped in to stop Wright from disciplining the child, a fight ensued inside the home. Both men then went outside to continue the fight, at which time Wright allegedly produced a rifle and shot Jenkins in the leg. Wright initially fled the scene, but returned several hours later, and was arrested without incident.

Jenkins was transported to Beaufort Memorial for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. His condition remains undisclosed at this time.

Wright is charged with one count of 1st degree Assault and Battery and is in custody at the Beaufort County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
