USA Today's Great American Bites feature has named Berry Island Ice Cream Cafe on Lady's Island one of the 50 best ice cream parlors in the country. Check out the full story here.

In fact, Beaufort is within 40 miles of two of the nation's top 50: Leopold's Ice Cream in Savannah took the top prize for Georgia.

Here's what USA Today had to say about Berry Island:

"Located on Lady's Island in the coastal town of Beaufort, Berry Island Ice Cream Cafe offers 24 flavors at a time. Try a scoop of a standby called the Prince of Tides, a favorite of Barbra Streisand when she was in town making the movie based on Pat Conroy's novel. It's coffee-almond fudge, but the name is pure South Carolina."

According to USA Today Berry Island took the title for South Carolina thanks to a recommendation from Sid Evans, editor of Garden & Gun magazine, which recently included a feature article about Beaufort.
