A high school gymnasium, just not the one in question

Ridgeland High School will reopen this morning, aside from the three-hour weather delay, after the school's gymnasium was evacuated during a Friday night basketball game when a strange odor led to several players and fans getting sick.

Both The Island Packet and WSAV have coverage of the incident and the reopening.

For the Jasper County School District's part, it says the school has been inspected by state and local authorities along with a private firm, and no contaminants were found.

Here's the statement on the district's website:

The State Department of Health and Environmental Control and the Ridgeland Fire Department have completed inspection of the Ridgeland High School and have found no contaminants.  A further inspection by a private air quality inspection firm has confirmed that finding.  In that the facility has been deemed to be safe by these agencies, school will be open as usual on Monday, January 10.  The Jasper County School District extends its appreciation to all the police, fire, medical and hazardous materials agencies who responded to our needs on Friday.
