Proposed Bluffton Olive Garden runs into a snag, what's it mean for Beaufort?

The Olive Garden proposed for the presently being rebuilt Tanger Outlets I in Bluffton has hit a snag in the form of the Southern Corridor Review Board and controversy over stone and tile in the proposed building's construction.

I'll point you over to The Island Packet's report for the story on this debate, but why it's interesting for us North of the Broad is that this could foreshadow a debate for the Olive Garden proposed for Beaufort Town Center.

At the core of the Bluffton debate is the desire for a variance for something that is generally allowed in the area but perhaps not for a specific parcel of land, and there's a strong desire not to stall or outright prohibit economic development in the form of construction and infill development during the Great Recession.

We'll see how things play out come the Monday, January 10, Metropolitan Planning Commission at Beaufort City Hall.
