In Beaufort embezzlement case, fired employee may await outcome of federal case

Remember how former Beaufort County Clerk of Court Elizabeth Smith was found guilty on charges of embezzlement and now faces federal charges?

Now a former deputy clerk of court, Janice Young, is holding off on her civil suit of alleged wrongful termination pending the outcome of the  federal case.

Young says that Smith fired her in July 2009 for complying with an ethics investigation into Smith's use of public funds, and when Smith resigned later that month Smith's replacement refused to rehire her.
