Port Royal school's potential closure served up with an ample dose of irony

In case you missed it, an advisory board that will send its recommendations to the Beaufort Conty Board of Education voted Wednesday to close Port Royal Elementary School.

If you did miss the story check it out here.

That potential closure comes with a healthy dose of irony as this year marks the 100th anniversary of that school and that historic building.

The Island Packet had a story back in January regarding potential celebrations being planned to mark the occasion. Read that here.

And while all these discussions of closure are occurring, a beautiful new marker is being placed in front of the school. Let's hope people appreciated this school while they had it and that appreciation can carry over for years to come.
