Three rescued from rising tide at Hunting Island sandbar

Three were rescued Sunday night after going onto a sandbar near the Russ Point Boat Landing and then becoming trapped on all sides by a rising tide.

I'll point you to WTOC 11's report on the Hunting Island incident.

We've said it many times when talking about local safety, but I'll say it again: While taking long walks on South Carolina's beautiful beaches, be sure to watch for incoming tides, as the water doesn't always rise just in front of you. Many times, that lovely long stretch of beach is part sandbar and will soon be consumed by the 12 feet of water coming back in the next tide.
