Between the Covers: A column about books for book lovers

[Editor's note: Today we introduce Amanda Brewer, the first of our local columnists. More will be introduced in the coming weeks and we'll soon show you the page where you can keep up with all of their writings. Remember you can learn more about the author of any post (and see their recent pieces and comments) by clicking their byline above each story headline.]

Just read it. That’s my slogan. I’m a librarian by day and a guitar strumming singer by night. Any other time you’ll find me with my nose nestled in a book.  It doesn’t have to be a bestseller, an award winner, or featured on BookTV.  Just give me a book and let me read between the covers.

There’s no finer place than the Lowcountry to enjoy reading. Enjoy a chapter, or two, of a Pat Conroy bestseller during the next break of your kayaking tour of the Hunting Island lagoon.  Invite your friends over to taste test Alabama Lane Cake as you discuss the societal challenges and family dynamics that characterize Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird.  Join a book club and sip sweet mimosas from your perch on a front porch swing as the sultry breeze channels William Faulkner and his southern style.  If Virginia is for lovers, I believe the Lowcountry is for book lovers.

It’s a pleasure to join TheDigitel Beaufort community and writing content for this column. Join me here each month as we discuss books, authors, and local literary events.
