PortBarrel: New website focuses on environmental argument again Savannah River deepening

Thanks to a blurb over at The Island Packet, I noticed a new anti-Savannah port dredging website.

Backed by Savannah Riverkeeper and the Coastal Conservation League, PortBarrel.org decries the planned deepening of the river to accommodate the next generation of cargo ships as "counter-intuitive and very hard to explain ... we are accusing the Savannah Harbor Expansion Project of wasteful spending—in addition to wasting the environment."

Check out the site for yourself here.

Previously, environmental groups have advocated focusing on a Jasper port site, as it is closer to the ocean and would be less damaging to the environment—though the bureaucratic ball would take at least decades to make that happen.
