Another local grandparent hit by wire transfer scam

Remember the granddad who was bilked out of $6,000 after a person from Mexico City said he was the man's grandson and persuaded him to wire cash from the Beaufort Walmart? Well, a grandmother from Hampton Hall was hit by a similar scam, wiring $2,900 to Panama before a second request for money tipped her off.
I'll point you over to The Island Packet's report that notes scammers often turn to the internet to find targets and flush out details about their targets.
With two area reports, officials are wondering how many other elderly persons have been targeted and not reported the scams.
